Parts of the Midwest are cleaning up after tornadoes struck earlier in the week, while the storms moved on to the Mid-Atlantic on Friday.

A tornado in Jackson County, Tenn., on Thursday stripped away the roof of a high school gym, WZTV in Nashville reported Friday. Buildings in Alabama and Illinois also sustained structural damage, according to local reports.
“We laid on our stomachs and held onto a metal gate,” said Tom Barger of Pike County, Ill. “Before long the building was completely gone that was on top of us.”
